The main difference between Bryophytes and Pteridophytes is the difference of reproductive strategies, as Bryophytes reproduce via spores and lack seeds, while Pteridophytes have the ability to reproduce through both spores and seeds.

Bryophytes vs Pteridophytes

Here are the main differences between Bryophytes and Pteridophytes:

BryophytesPteridophytes
1. Bryophytes are amphibious plants1. Pteridophytes are not amphibious plants.
2. They are fully adapted to terrestrial conditions.2. They are well adapted to terrestrial condition.
3. Plant body is thallus or plant like. True stem, leave and root are absent.3. Plant body may be composed of root stem and leaves.
4. Vascular tissues (xylem. phloem) are  absent in them.4. Vascular tissues are present in them.
5. They absorb water by rhizoid.5. They mostly absorb water by root.
6. Photosynthesis occurs by thallus plant body. Leave like structure may be present.6. Photosynthesis is done by stem or leaves.
7. They reproduce asexually by spore formation. They are homosporous.7. They also reproduce by spore formation. They may be homosporous or heterosporous.
8. They show heteromorphic alternation & of generation.  8. They show heteromorphic alternation of generation.
9. Gametophyte is dominant in them.  9. Sporophyte is dominant in them. Gametophyte is reduced.
10. Sporophyte depends on gametophyte for nourishment and support.10. Sporophyte is independent and prepares its own food.
11. They produce embryo form oospore.11. They also produce embryo.
