College life is an exciting period of a person’s life. During this period a student will experience several changes that will affect his/her mental health.

It is a known fact that most college students face mental health issues because of academic stress, peer pressure, lack of sleep, and financial burden. Worse case is that students never come to know how to deal with mental health issues.

As a teacher, I have seen many brilliant students who destroyed their future just because of their mental health problems. I talked to them and their parents in detail and found some common problems. Here are some common mental health issues that college students often face.

Depression

A major cause of depression among college students is the academic burden. The student will feel that he/she is not doing well in the classes and hence there is a feeling of failure and lack of self-confidence.

Suicidal thoughts

This is a common problem among college students, but the number of suicides among college students is very less. The main reason behind this is that the students usually have a fear of failing exams or not getting good grades.

Low self-esteem

The college students feel that they are not good enough and hence they are not confident. In order to make them confident college students should be aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
