LCM of numbers can be calculated using distinct methods. There are 3 methods to determine the least common multiple of two or more number numbers. LCM by division method, LCM by listing method, least common multiple (LCM) by prime factorization method.in this article how to find LCM by using the Listing Method.

How to find the LCM by using the listing Method?

We can calculate the common multiples of two or more numbers by listing their multiples. Out of these common multiples, the least common multiple is considered and the LCM of two given numbers can thus be found. To find the LCM of the two numbers x and y by the listing method, we use the steps given below:

Step 1: List the first few multiples of x and y.

Step 2: Mark the common multiples from the multiples of two numbers.

Step3: Select the smallest common multiple. That smallest common multiple is the LCM of both numbers.

For example: Find the least common multiple (LCM) of 2 and 3 by using the listing method

Solution: Find the least common multiple (LCM) of 2 and 3.

Step1: List the first few multiples of 2 and 3.

Multiple of 2 are:2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,..

Multiple of 3 are:3,6,9,12,15,18,…

We can observe that 6 is the least multiple which is common in the multiples of 2 and 3. Therefore, the least common multiple (LCM of 2 and 3) is 6.
