In a recent meeting chaired by committee head Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, key education issues were discussed. Tarand emphasized the importance of raising community schoolteachers’ salaries to align with minimum wage requirements.

Provincial Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai, along with several Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) and senior education officials, participated in the session. Discussions focused on improving education quality, extending contracts for school leaders, and addressing other pressing challenges.

Minister Tarakai clarified that school leaders are currently responsible for monitoring education quality. Plans to redefine their roles in the future are under consideration.

The committee also introduced a scholarship program aimed at increasing student enrollment in low-literacy areas, particularly in merged districts. Officials revealed that ministerial staff transfers would now occur after 1.5 years of service at one location. This policy will initially be implemented in three districts before expanding to the entire province.

Efforts to expand the Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) to more districts were also highlighted. The ALP aims to help out-of-school children transition into mainstream education. However, Tarand stressed the need to resolve current issues within the program before further expansion.

Delays in school construction projects in Charsadda and Swat were another key concern. Special Secretary Education Qaiser Alam was instructed to expedite these projects. Officials were also advised to seek approval from the Finance Department for completing pending school infrastructure.

These steps reflect the committee’s focus on addressing long-standing challenges in the education sector and ensuring access to quality education for students across the province.
