More Schools for Transgender Students in Punjab
Punjab Opens Two New Schools for Transgender Students

The government of Punjab has decided to open two more schools just for transgender students. These new schools will be in Lahore, in the areas of Raiwind and Wagah. There is already one school for transgender students in front of Barkat Market in Lahore.
For all three of these schools, the Punjab School Education Department will provide free books, stationery (pens, pencils, etc.), and uniforms to the transgender students. Each student will also get a scholarship of Rs. 10,000 every month. Out of this, Rs. 5,000 will be for buying books and stationery, and Rs. 5,000 will be for their travel expenses to come to school. But to get this scholarship, the students must attend at least 80% of their classes.
Earlier, similar schools for transgender students were also opened in the cities of Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan. This helps transgender people get an education in different parts of Punjab.
A few months ago, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, had announced plans to start transgender schools in every division of Punjab. She had also said that at least one government school in each district should have special facilities for children with disabilities.
It’s important to note that out of the 11 divisions in Punjab, 9 of them already have schools for transgender students. This was an initiative started by the previous government led by Usman Buzdar.
Opening more schools for transgender students is a great step towards providing equal educational opportunities to everyone, regardless of their gender identity.
