Punjab CM Distributes Honhaar Scholarship Cheques in Sialkot
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the Honhaar Scholarship Programme for the Gujranwala Division. She handed over scholarship cheques to the top 10 students at Government College University (GCWU) in Sialkot.
A Special Ceremony for Talented Students
The event featured special arrangements to honor talented students:
- A guard of honor was presented by a Punjab Police contingent.
- The CM interacted with students, took photos, and witnessed emotional moments.
- Students Alina Saeed and Nayab Fatima shared heartfelt stories, moving the CM to promise full support for Nayabโs motherโs cancer treatment.
- Fine Arts students presented a portrait of the CM and a picture highlighting her as an โIron Lady.โ
Expanding the Scholarship Programme
CM Maryam Nawaz announced that the Punjab government will allocate 50,000 scholarships in next yearโs budget, up from 30,000 currently. She also assured students that second and third-year students would soon be included in the program.
Education Support Initiatives
The CM introduced additional initiatives to promote education, including:
- Laptops for High Performers: Students scoring above 65% will get laptops. The first batch has already been procured.
- Free E-Bikes: One lakh e-bikes will be distributed to students across Punjab.
CMโs Message to Students
Maryam Nawaz declared the Honhaar Scholarship the largest in Pakistanโs history. She called the scholarships a right earned through hard work and emphasized the importance of investing in youth.
She said, โThe largest part of Pakistanโs population is its youth, and they are my biggest priority. Public money is a trust and should be spent on peopleโs welfare.โ
The CM also thanked Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and Higher Education Secretary Dr. Farrukh Naveed for implementing the scholarship program successfully.
