Acids are substances that have a pH level below 7 and can donate protons or accept electrons.  Some examples of acids include hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulfuric acid (H2SO4), nitric acid (HNO3), acetic acid (CH3COOH), and citric acid (C6H8O7).
