In real life, you could walk up to someone and say hi, shake their hand, give them a hug, etc. But the Internet makes these things impossible. You would never know if something was wrong if you didn’t physically interact with them first.
Identity theft
It’s possible to steal someone’s identity and use it to open credit cards, apply for loans, take out mortgages, buy houses, etc. In order to protect yourself, you should always keep track of where you put your personal information.
