A desktop computer is a type of personal computer (PC) that has a flat-screen monitor and keyboard attached to its base. The term was coined in the 1980s and came from the desktops that were placed on top of large mainframe computers.
Desktop computers are designed to perform specific tasks such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, games, and other applications. In addition, they are often used to store data and run programs.
Types of desktop computer
There are three types of desktop computers.
Full-Size desktop computer
This type of desktop computer is the largest and most powerful desktop computer available today. These computers have a screen that measures at least 17 inches diagonally. Most full-size desktop computers have a display resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Full-size desktop computers are typically used for gaming, video editing, photo editing, and graphic design applications.
Compact Desktop Computer
A compact desktop computer is smaller than a full-size desktop computer. Compact desktop computers are typically used in homes and offices where space is limited. A typical compact desktop computer has a screen that measures between 12 inches and 15 inches diagonally. Compact desktop computers are generally less expensive than full-size desktop computers.
All-In-One Computer
An all-in-one computer combines many features of both a laptop and desktop computer into one unit. All-in-one computers are typically much smaller than full-size desktop computers and are often used in small spaces such as dorm rooms.
An all-in-one computer may have a screen that measures between 10 inches and 11 inches diagonally. All-in-one computers tend to be cheaper than full-size desktop computers, but they lack some of the power and functionality of a full-size desktop computer.

Gaming Computer

Workstation Computer
A workstation computer is a desktop computer used for office applications. These computers are usually equipped with faster processors and more memory than typical gaming computers. Workstations are commonly used for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and web browsing.
Server Computer
A server computer is a desktop computer dedicated to running specific programs. Servers are usually used for hosting websites, email servers, databases, and other network services.
