Working of search engine
A search engine works by indexing and analyzing web content, and then providing relevant results to user queries. It does this through a three-step process:
1: Crawling
Search engines use web crawlers (also known as spiders or bots) to navigate the internet. The web page crawlers like Google Bot visit web pages and collect data about their content, structure, and links.
2: Indexing
The collected data is organized and stored in a massive database known as an index. The index is categorized according to categories of web pages. For example, if a page is about computer science then it will be added in an index related to education. This index contains information about keywords, meta tags, and the relationships between different web pages.
3: Ranking
When a user submits a search query, the search engine’s algorithm processes the query and matches it with the information in the index. It then ranks the pages based on relevance, using different ranking factors like keyword usage, page authority, and user engagement. The most relevant results are displayed to the user.
The user can then click on one of the search results to access the web page. Search engines continuously update their indexes and algorithms to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date results.
